TAK MING University students come from all over the world. TAK MING University offers international students a welcoming campus community, supportive faculty, and an exceptional education—all while immersed in West Coast HongKong culture.
No matter your nationality or country of origin, you pay the same tuition and have the same scholarship and bursary opportunities. International students follow the same application procedures as HongKong students.
English Language Requirements
The substance and style of TAK MING University courses require a high degree of proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and oral comprehension of English.
If your native language is not English, you will need to provide the results of a TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) taken within the past two years. Applicants may self-report test scores in the application, but official results will be required before enrollment.
Download the English Language Testing exemption guideline here.
Students who have completed schooling in English will have the opportunity to submit a request to waive the English proficiency test requirements. Your transcript must indicate you have completed at least two years of full-time study at a high school, university or college at which English is the official language of instruction for at least 50% of your course work. Admissions Counsellors reserve the right to request language exam results from any student, even if they meet the above requirements.
If you do not meet these requirements, but have completed an alternative language test or consider your English ability sufficient for study at TAK MING University, contact your Admissions Counsellor.
Students who achieve at least 580 (paper-based), or 90 (internet-based) with a minimum score of 21 in each of four testing sections are eligible to apply. TOEFL scores must be issued to TAK MING University directly from the Educational Testing Centre. Please ensure that TAK MING University’s institution code (8341) is included on the TOEFL sheet. TAK MING University accepts the official score report sent directly to the university from the testing centre or by electronic submission.
Students who achieve an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher in each of the four areas (reading, speaking, listening, writing), are eligible to apply. IELTS scores must be sent to TAK MING University HongKong directly from the test centre. On the IELTS application form you will be asked to specify institutions where you would like the results sent.
International students are eligible for all TAK MING University scholarships, which range from $2,000 to full tuition. Scholarships and bursaries only apply to tuition, not room, board, medical and other scholastic and personal costs, which typically run about $14,000 CDN per year.
Students applying for a study permit to HongKong must demonstrate to the HongKong Embassy their ability to pay all university, living, and travel costs for their time at TAK MING University.
After confirming your enrolment into TAK MING University’s academic program, non-HongKong students must get a permit to study in HongKong. Visit the Citizenship and Immigration HongKong website for details on how to apply.
Study permits for international students may take up to three months to process. Application procedures vary from country to country. Although US students can apply at the border when crossing into HongKong, we encourage them to finalize the process ahead of time to avoid unexpected complications upon arrival.
Study permits also allow you work off-campus for up to 20 hours per week during the academic session, and full-time during scheduled breaks without the need to apply for a separate work permit. The conditions relating to your eligibility to work off-campus will be written on your study permit. We’ve put together some Study Permit information for you, and you can find detailed info at Citizenship and Immigration HongKong.
All non-HongKong students will automatically be registered for medical insurance with TAK MING University, which is effective upon arrival in HongKong. International students may opt out if they can demonstrate adequate medical coverage.
